Brand design for a landscape designer
Stephen Read is a highly-regarded Melbourne Landscape Architect and Designer who works with his clients to think about how their garden will function both now and in the future.
The Story
Stephen Read wanted to elevate his brand to be more in line with his clients and his level of expertise. Whilst working under his former business name he was concerned he was perceived as an ‘on the job landscaper’ (the man with a wheelbarrow). His brand needed to reflect his actual role as an architect of landscapes.
My design solution was a refined and elegant wordmark with a monogram ‘designer label’. The design is clean, contemporary and flexible and has stood the test of time (over 12 years now!). The monogram element works well on its own and the minimalist styling deliberately doesn’t overwhelm visuals of Stephen’s work when it’s shown in marketing materials.
I love the fact that Stephen’s brand still represents him today. It did exactly what it was intended to do, relaunching him as an architect of gardens instead of the person with a wheelbarrow and a shovel. Stephen is highly regarded in his profession as one of the best in the business and has many, many satisfied clients who love their gardens. He’s also an educator of others in his industry. It is gratifying to see this and to have continued working with Stephen over the years.

“Faced with the difficult task of rebranding my landscape design business, I turned to Clare Blackstock at Blade Creative. Before starting work on my rebranding, Clare made sure she had a detailed understanding of my clients, their expectations and the direction I was taking my business. I couldn’t be happier with the results. My branding hit the mark, and Clare continues to help me grow and hone my brand through print material as well as connecting me with a web designer and printing company. I can honestly say that the success I now have in my business started with the rebranding Blade Creative completed for me.”
